Understanding Mouse Speed
Mouse speed and precision are critical for gaming performance. This test measures how fast you can move your mouse while maintaining accuracy. The speed is calculated in pixels per second, showing how quickly your cursor travels across the screen.
Polling rate determines how often your mouse reports its position to the computer. Standard mice poll at 125Hz (every 8ms), gaming mice typically poll at 500Hz or 1000Hz (every 1-2ms). Higher polling rates reduce input lag and make cursor movement smoother, especially during fast flicks.
Mouse acceleration can affect your consistency. With acceleration enabled, faster physical mouse movements result in disproportionately larger cursor movements. Most competitive gamers disable acceleration for predictable, consistent aim. Windows mouse acceleration ( Enhance Pointer Precision) should be turned off for gaming.
Your effective mouse speed depends on your DPI and in-game sensitivity settings. Use our DPI Analyzer tool to calculate your effective DPI and find the optimal sensitivity for your playstyle. Consistent mouse speed across different games helps maintain muscle memory.
